The Center for New Enlistees and Recruits to the MV
Published on January 3, 2009 By Cypher In Metaverse

Hello new recruits and enlistees. Welcome to the Metaverse. This forum post is for all newcomers to GalCiv2, or just newcomers to the MV. If you're not sure what empire to join on the MV, make a reply on this post and the leaders/senators of the MV empires will take a look and offer you the chance to join their empires.

A Brief Overview on the MV

The Metaverse is one of a kind in that you can play on it whenever you want, and you don't have to go through the complicated process of setting up a game like you do in a regular Multiplayer format. You have three character slots. These slots are your tickets into the MV and into MV empires. Once you've created a character, you can choose to add him to an already existing empire. That's where this post comes in. If you are unsure about which empire to join, or if you are unsure about which empires are currently still active in the MV, this is the place to go for that information. If you have any questions or comments, post to this thread and either myself or a browsing veteran will respond as soon as possible.

I am not entirely certain on how popular this post is going to be. The MV is kind of at a standstill right now, but their are still people posting to it and adding to their empires scores. I encourage anyone who is not currently part of an empire to make a character and join one. Like I said before, any questions that you have on how to do this can be posted right here on this thread. Being active in the Metaverse is just another great part about GalCiv2.

Finally, I am going to try and keep an updated list of active MV empires, and also one of currently "dead" empires. I'm only going to list dead empires that are in the Top 15, but I will be willing to list any empire, no matter what rank, that is currently active in the MV. If a player comes to this thread and sees that their active empire isn't in my list, please feel free to drop me a reply so that I can add you to the list of actives. Also, you may have noticed that some of the active empires have their names as links. If you click on one of these links, you will be taken directly to that empire's official thread. I hope you find everything you need here at the MVRC. Thank you and Best Regards.

Yes..unfortunatley the Klingon Empire has retreated back into our own Space. Perhaps a time will come when we may roam these parts again.

Untill then we Klingons have sought refuge within the ranks of the mighty Tyranny of Evil in their quest to hold off the ever expanding torrent of fur.

As we see it, the Tyranny of Evil is the only empire standing in the way of the Kzin scourge and we will do our utmost to help them in this quest.

I'll still include them in the MV mod.

How interesting. You make mods? Do you edit using game features or do you edit the .xml and/or image files directly?

NOTICE: I strongly encourage any MV emperors that are reading this thread to please let me know the name of your empire so that I can add it to the "Active" list. This will allow your empire to receive some recognition, as well as increase its chances of acquiring new members.

Cypher, if I'm remembering rightly, there's a longstanding tradition of MV empires that are 'active' in terms of posting scores but have little to no presence on the boards. You can suss them out via the AltMeta pretty easily because it ages out scores more quickly, and eventually eliminates them.

I just took a quick peek at the High Command and they've had a few scores posted recently. Maybe you need three lists: Active, Active but Quiet, and Inactive.

Hmmm... you have a very good point there, GW Swicord. Thanks for the heads up - I probably will add that third list. Thanks again.

NOTICE: I have added a third list to the OP entitled "Declining Empires in the Metaverse." You may notice that every empire that is now on this new list, I had previously considered "Inactive/Dead." I have placed them on "Declining" do to the recent flurry of game submissions that are eminating from these empires.

With that being said - if there are any BC Space Orca members that are browsing this thread, please provide a link to your official empire-thread on the GalCiv2 forums. If I do not have the link by the end of the month, your empire will be considered "Inactive", despite the fact that you may still be posting scores.

Along with that - if any empire wishes to be considered "Active", they must provide a forum link to their empire's thread, or they will, at best, be considered "Declining."

I will judge an empire's activity based on how many games they have posted to the MV. Also, I check at the AltMeta, which provides some fast, up-to-date info on any recent scoring by an empire, which is why I have the ones that I have under "Declining." They have members still posting scores, just not staying active on the forums. Thank you and Best Regards.

No disrespect, Cypher, but I find the term "declining" to be a bit judgemental. The system is perfectly capable of supporting an active empire whose members exclusively talk amongst themselves via email and/or a private forum somewhere.

Maybe "Active but Quiet" is a bit too touchy-feely a phrase, but IMO the only reason to call an empire "declining" is if they still have folks posting games but are slipping in rank as an empire. Even there, it might be dicey if you weren't following all the inside baseball news closely. The Diplomats had mostly all jumped ship to the ToE long before I knew about it. On the charts, they just looked like they were losing their juice to me until I understood that lots of strong players had packed up and taken their scores elsewhere.

I'm not trying to hassle you with any seriousness. I fuss with wording to earn my kibble, and the old Metaverse Council appointed me as a sort of at-large representative for 'the little folks' who still cared about the MV. So I'm just muttering...

on Jan 24, 2009

"Declining" may have been a bit judgemental - I simply stated it like that because those empires are getting fewer and fewer scores posted to both the MV and AltMeta, but they are still posting scores. I meant for "Declining" to mean that the empire's aren't as active as they once were, but they haven't fallen into Inactivity yet. "Active but Quiet" may be a better way of putting it, though maybe not the most creative way of putting it.

Edit: NOTICE: The "Declining" list has been renamed to "Active but Quiet." It essentially is directed at the same empires, but with a more lenient word-choice. Best Regards.

Does "Active but Quiet" actually mean the empire IS active and posting score only quiet? I see that a lot of them went quiet around fall last year

Why are 4 of the 5 active empires evil! I gotta choose between being hunted down and eaten by one empire or being hunted down and eaten by another

Not to worry, Jonathan.  Some evil empires accept good players.  Of course, sometimes it's just to try and corrupt you.

We Kzinti are not evil, just....very hungry.   It is right for the strong and swift to devour the weak and slow.  This is the natural law of the galaxy.  Kzinti stalk the far reaches of the stars and prey is bountiful.  Would you become the hunter or the hunted?

Welcome Jonathan Parker!

Yeah, we Geckodons are not evil, we just love war because we are warriors (like the Kzinti). So if you don't want to become the hunted then join the Geckodon Alliance. Also we accpet good and neutral players, as long as they have the heart of a warrior.

Anyways what most people don't under stand is that there are two types of evil

Warrior Evil which is what the Geckodons and Kzinti are. Then there's Pure Evil which is what the ToE and Raiders are
