The Center for New Enlistees and Recruits to the MV
Published on January 3, 2009 By Cypher In Metaverse

Hello new recruits and enlistees. Welcome to the Metaverse. This forum post is for all newcomers to GalCiv2, or just newcomers to the MV. If you're not sure what empire to join on the MV, make a reply on this post and the leaders/senators of the MV empires will take a look and offer you the chance to join their empires.

A Brief Overview on the MV

The Metaverse is one of a kind in that you can play on it whenever you want, and you don't have to go through the complicated process of setting up a game like you do in a regular Multiplayer format. You have three character slots. These slots are your tickets into the MV and into MV empires. Once you've created a character, you can choose to add him to an already existing empire. That's where this post comes in. If you are unsure about which empire to join, or if you are unsure about which empires are currently still active in the MV, this is the place to go for that information. If you have any questions or comments, post to this thread and either myself or a browsing veteran will respond as soon as possible.

I am not entirely certain on how popular this post is going to be. The MV is kind of at a standstill right now, but their are still people posting to it and adding to their empires scores. I encourage anyone who is not currently part of an empire to make a character and join one. Like I said before, any questions that you have on how to do this can be posted right here on this thread. Being active in the Metaverse is just another great part about GalCiv2.

Finally, I am going to try and keep an updated list of active MV empires, and also one of currently "dead" empires. I'm only going to list dead empires that are in the Top 15, but I will be willing to list any empire, no matter what rank, that is currently active in the MV. If a player comes to this thread and sees that their active empire isn't in my list, please feel free to drop me a reply so that I can add you to the list of actives. Also, you may have noticed that some of the active empires have their names as links. If you click on one of these links, you will be taken directly to that empire's official thread. I hope you find everything you need here at the MVRC. Thank you and Best Regards.

Hmm, I have been known to grumble about young'uns, though I've never had to chase any off my lawn.  Now deer, those I've had to chase off a few times.  There were two at first, but it's been a few years and now there are five of the things.  Lovely, they are, and they come right up to my window if I don't give them a start, though they've given my poor heart a few jolts when I look up from my reading chair and see a big head of antlers all of five feet off.  I wouldn't mind them if it wasn't for what they leave behind for me to step in.  Oh dear, I seem to be rambling...  Perhaps the Gerontocracy is the right place for me, even though I'm not "old" by any means (Ignore my member number, I spent most of that time asleep).

Hey Cypher! This post is great! Serious, I never knew what empire where currently in competition for 1st place and this post tells me exactly what I want to see (I was about to say hear).

Sure thing Taliesin - thanks for the reply. I'm thinking about adding some up-to-date rankings to the list as well - gotta find some time first. I have exams this week, so chances that I can get to it soon are not very good. Thanks again and Best Regards.

don't remind me, Exams ~Groan~ worest time of the year. Can't get a job without passing them though so I guess it's just about grinning and baring them. (ps, I cannot be stuffed changing the fonts anymore)

Will you also be checking the altmet? The scoring system seems to drop off inactive empires as there posted games drop. I have seen that my {minor Empire} The league of robot rulers is in the top 20, mainly since I post about a game every other week or so. I also posted a kziniti game this week to keep me of the dinner menu. Just a thought.

what is the altameta?

on Jan 05, 2009

go to altmeta.kryofx.com you will find a listing on google , I even found some of the top empires listed here ,just go to the one listed with kryo. The Altmeta keeps a more up to date listing which is time based so many of the older   totally inactive empires are listed much lower in rating then the more active empires. This also applies to individual listings.

wow... the galactic core is confusing. but the altameta looks pretty good. i signed up asap.

The AltMeta is a fine side project of Kryo's that he let the old Metaverse Council heckle him about while he was building it. The two main factors distinguishing it from the official Metaverse are that scores age out more quickly and ranks are listed on six ladders instead of a single one.

The Universal-All ladder tracks all map sizes and win types. The Galactic-Mil and Solar-Mil are limited to war wins on the smaller maps. The three Civ ladders divide scores for all non-war wins by map size. This is because the game scoring code basically gives more points for war wins on the largest, densest maps.

If you end up checking the AltMeta regularly, don't forget to say a kind word to Kryo sometime. He made us a very nice present of his skilled labor, IMO.

p.s. If you're playing TA, an Ascension win counts as a war in, although it doesn't score quite as well.

Hey everyone - sorry for the delayed response - day 1 of exams done. Only 7 more days left.   I could definitely add the AltMeta to the list. I wasn't sure about how active it has currently been, but since there are obviously still some players, I'll see what I can do.

The AltMeta draws data directly from the Metaverse.

@ KP: On some level, I understand you. But I'm not sure on what you mean by it drawing data from the MV. Forgive me - I may have a multitude of posts, but I'm still new.

The AltMeta rankings that are displayed uses data directly from the official Metaverse.  The ranking system is different, but the raw data is from the same source.  For a player to be in the AltMeta though, they need to be in an empire that is registered with the AltMeta.

the AltMeta is exactly as active as the regular MV. it's just a parallel scoring system. there's no registtration required, and (AFAIK) unless Kryo blacklists someone from the AltMeta, anyone who submits MV games is eligable for AltMeta ranking by default. i think that was the significance of what KP was telling you.

Thanks for the clear up guys. Sorry - my brain's a little fried from exams.
