The Center for New Enlistees and Recruits to the MV
Published on January 3, 2009 By Cypher In Metaverse

Hello new recruits and enlistees. Welcome to the Metaverse. This forum post is for all newcomers to GalCiv2, or just newcomers to the MV. If you're not sure what empire to join on the MV, make a reply on this post and the leaders/senators of the MV empires will take a look and offer you the chance to join their empires.

A Brief Overview on the MV

The Metaverse is one of a kind in that you can play on it whenever you want, and you don't have to go through the complicated process of setting up a game like you do in a regular Multiplayer format. You have three character slots. These slots are your tickets into the MV and into MV empires. Once you've created a character, you can choose to add him to an already existing empire. That's where this post comes in. If you are unsure about which empire to join, or if you are unsure about which empires are currently still active in the MV, this is the place to go for that information. If you have any questions or comments, post to this thread and either myself or a browsing veteran will respond as soon as possible.

I am not entirely certain on how popular this post is going to be. The MV is kind of at a standstill right now, but their are still people posting to it and adding to their empires scores. I encourage anyone who is not currently part of an empire to make a character and join one. Like I said before, any questions that you have on how to do this can be posted right here on this thread. Being active in the Metaverse is just another great part about GalCiv2.

Finally, I am going to try and keep an updated list of active MV empires, and also one of currently "dead" empires. I'm only going to list dead empires that are in the Top 15, but I will be willing to list any empire, no matter what rank, that is currently active in the MV. If a player comes to this thread and sees that their active empire isn't in my list, please feel free to drop me a reply so that I can add you to the list of actives. Also, you may have noticed that some of the active empires have their names as links. If you click on one of these links, you will be taken directly to that empire's official thread. I hope you find everything you need here at the MVRC. Thank you and Best Regards.

~ Cypher ~

Hi

The "Qourth Empire" is still active, we just are as active as we used to be.

I would the empire to be added to the "Quiet" (maybe very quiet, lol) list if possible, so the players still posting can be recognised.

Thanks

Hi Quorth,

I dont think Cypher has been around for quite a while, so this thread probably wont be getting updated.

By the way are you interested in joining an Empire if so go to Forums then click on Metaverse there you find Empires that are active, I would not want anybody to join a dying or dead one. I would join one that is in the top ten, Oh by the way. I have an Empire you should read about, click on the link below to take you to my empire. You know you can do whatever you want to do because you have a choice.

KP you are fast or I am just two days to slow.

Good Hunting

I thought that Kzinti is inactive, because before i posted here i have pm them and i didn´t get a respond. In the Kzinti Empire i have found what i searched for. I try now Gigantic on suicidial. In the first game i lost after 2 years, because my military might was too weak. All Empires have engaged at war with me. When i win at least my current Game i delete my previously scores. I hope the second gigantic/suicidial will be better one^^. I think Galciv 2 is a good game. Other Games like Civ 5 isn´t good as GC2 is because there is no meterverse or a good score system (Civ 5 is screwed up in the score system).  Next time i buy GC when it comes out.^^ I've missed a lot!

@ Inknbation

May I ask, what were you looking for and what did you find?

Drop on by my little empire and add a comment.

I'm still reading through this thread.

I'm pretty brand spanking new to GCII, and I can beat half the scenarios on normal.

I originally came here wondering...  what's the point of Leaderboards, or Metaverse??  I'm still looking for that answer.

edit: In addition, I noticed that espionage/spies only give you information about other races.  Do they ever sabotach?  Also, all my spies dissappeared like a bug after I eliminated a race that my spies were working on.  I mean, c'mon, it's not like we're going to kill our own spies... or is that what happens?  Basically, just before the killing blow, remove spies... ugh, annoying.

charliec -

When the game was newer, the Metaverse was apparently a way to have competition among players in a game w/o multiplayer.  High scores, total Empire scores, etc were a source of interest.  Many players had discovered tricks or even exploits and tried to keep them "secret" within their Empires.  See the "Economic Powerhouse" post by Mumblefratz for one such example.

One I discovered independently involves a simple way to get a slightly better planetary starting setup.  I sometimes still use it, but only on Suicidal.

The spy bug you referenced has long been known.  The player who first documented it noted that when a race was exterminated with spies assigned to it, that the spies did not really die, but simply could never again be accessed.  For example, the intel level on the extinct race will continue to increase and the player will even get notifications when each increase occurs, though the race is gone!  The player described it as the spies "becoming archaeologists."

Spies placed directly on improvements on specific planets do appear to have effects.  That is, they appear to deprive that planet or empire of the benefit of the improvement while they are there.   I say "apparently" because i have never been able to prove it.  In some cases, they seem not to have an effect.  Very rarely, a player will get notified that a tech has been stolen by espionage from a race that has at least one spy assigned to a planetary improvement.  There reportedly is no relationship between which improvement is targeted and the tech that is stolen.

Wow.  I didn't think a thread from the metaverse would pop back up after being dead and buried for years.

Old memories of a bygone era.

Yep, back then, we had these things called "CD"s that held a small amount of music and even games!  Some games even required the CD to be in the drive before you could play them.  Nobody needed HDs bigger than 250GB and Windows could access a whopping 2 GB of RAM!  Yeah, good times.
