The Center for New Enlistees and Recruits to the MV
Published on January 3, 2009 By Cypher In Metaverse

Hello new recruits and enlistees. Welcome to the Metaverse. This forum post is for all newcomers to GalCiv2, or just newcomers to the MV. If you're not sure what empire to join on the MV, make a reply on this post and the leaders/senators of the MV empires will take a look and offer you the chance to join their empires.

A Brief Overview on the MV

The Metaverse is one of a kind in that you can play on it whenever you want, and you don't have to go through the complicated process of setting up a game like you do in a regular Multiplayer format. You have three character slots. These slots are your tickets into the MV and into MV empires. Once you've created a character, you can choose to add him to an already existing empire. That's where this post comes in. If you are unsure about which empire to join, or if you are unsure about which empires are currently still active in the MV, this is the place to go for that information. If you have any questions or comments, post to this thread and either myself or a browsing veteran will respond as soon as possible.

I am not entirely certain on how popular this post is going to be. The MV is kind of at a standstill right now, but their are still people posting to it and adding to their empires scores. I encourage anyone who is not currently part of an empire to make a character and join one. Like I said before, any questions that you have on how to do this can be posted right here on this thread. Being active in the Metaverse is just another great part about GalCiv2.

Finally, I am going to try and keep an updated list of active MV empires, and also one of currently "dead" empires. I'm only going to list dead empires that are in the Top 15, but I will be willing to list any empire, no matter what rank, that is currently active in the MV. If a player comes to this thread and sees that their active empire isn't in my list, please feel free to drop me a reply so that I can add you to the list of actives. Also, you may have noticed that some of the active empires have their names as links. If you click on one of these links, you will be taken directly to that empire's official thread. I hope you find everything you need here at the MVRC. Thank you and Best Regards.

~ Cypher ~

@GW Swicord: Mumblefratz's destiny is with the ToE not the Gerontocrats.

@Nelio: Thanks, I knew someone would have agreed with me and IMO the empire member limit should be 200 members.

200??

I was more thinking about 50-65 myself. With 200 hundred members there still would only be a handful of empires. With a limit of around 50-65 you could have far more empires active in the MV.

Though i guess 200 may have been alright 3 years ago. We have to remember we are 3 years on now from the release of GC2 so what we look at now has to be looked at in terms of activity 3 years ago.....

Anyway, nothing will eventuate, we still havent heard anything about the forum tweaks Kryo asked for.....

I didn't think of that.

@GW, you might be able to recruit SB

Also I remember visting these forums before I joined them, right around the release of Dark Avatar. These forums were very active, their were forums ranks that worked and certain medals weren't broken.

The Mumble part of my last post is mostly a running gag between the two of us. You could put Stickler for Loyalty on a list of Curmudgeon Criteria, after all...

Which is not to say that the Gerontocrats wouldn't welcome anyone as a new member. Actually, we couldn't even reject a decision to join if we wanted to. That's the practical result of our founder having had to put down this particular hobby and the MV having no way for an emporer to declare a successor.

I liked the Forum ranks, wish they were still visable here on the forum. But SD wanted to make GC2 just like all the other SD sites....

For the life of me though i don't know why. What ever happened to individuality? And what was wrong with it?

Have you ever considered starting a new, temporary empire?

There's something that can be said for loyalty to an empire, but if you have no emperor, it makes it difficult to control certain aspects of the empire. You could always create a new MV empire, where all of the members of the Gerontocracy that are still committed to the game could join up to. You would have better control over many aspects that involve an empire, and it would give you a chance to "refresh" your members. Anyone who isn't here anymore obviously wouldn't follow you to the new empire, but those who still were into GC2 would join back up.

Also, this new empire could be permanent or temporary. If Ghostwes comes back, the members of the old Gerontocracy could always re-sign with the old empire. The temporary version would just fall back to 0 pts. From a different perspective, you could all choose to stick with the new empire if you guys enjoy it. This would by no means be permanent, but it would be a nice "refresher" for the older members of the empire.

You could always go the route of the Olympian God's empire - Silverbeacher cut everyone loose once the empire was about to fall from the MV, and they were free to join-up with whomever they pleased. You'd would have the empire, and if Ghostwes ever returned, you (or whoever was the emperor) could just cut the active members of the temporary empire free so that they could rejoin the Gerontocracy, if they so desired.

The Gerontocracy would lose a fair amount of points in the MV, but all of those points would return whenever the old members returned to the empire. So in hindsight, nothing bad would befall either the old empire or the new one.

Consider this my (long) way of providing a suggestion. I am by no means demanding that the Gerontocracy makes this change. I'm just stating a possible route that the loyal members could take.

Best Regards.

Problem with that is that the members themselves have to make the change. So any members no longer active or even those who submit games but don't frequent the forums would not be aware of the new empire and to move over.

This was an issue i had a while ago when there were talks of certain mergers amongst empires. Too many members would be left in limbo since they would not be aorund to know to move their character, or perhpas simply not care anymore.

FYI....Had my merger worked it would have been awesome.....

What about posting the heads-up in the Gerontocrat (or any other empire's) official thread?

Post the update, then give it a week or so, or make it a personal requirement that a certain number of Gerontocrats (or any other empire's members) reply back to assure that they have heard the update.

What mergers were you trying to perform Neilo? I wasn't here for that kind of stuff, so I have no idea this was even attempted before.

Thanks for the heads-up though. Even with my "solution," it would be fairly difficult.

Especially with a bunch of old gas-bags like the Gerontocrats.

If you dig around ToE.com your sure to find the threads about it.

Cypher, AFAIK, the active Gerontocrats are happy as we are. Ghostwes himself pretty much scoffed the emporer thing. My only technical gripe about not having a successor function is that Ghostwes used to make every new member a senator, and now no one can do that. Our roster doesn't look quite as egalitarian as it used to because we've had a few folks join since the Hiatus began.

The Gerontocrats are indeed gas bags which makes them less enjoyable eating their people.

NOTICE: It appears that the Galactic Domination Alliance has joined the Top 20 on the MV, despite the fact that they haven't actually had any submitted games in quite some time. With that in mind, they have now made the "Active but Quiet" list.

If anyone from the GDA would like their empire to be seen on the "Active" list, please create an official MV thread for them here on GC2.com.

Also, if the Adepta Sororitas would post an official empire thread in the MV section of the GC2.com forums, I will gladly place you in the "Active" list. Despite the fact that you're not in the Top 20 yet, your empire has made a decent contribution to the MV.

That reminds me, I'm gonna ask Gl00mi and The Watcher if they'd like the GDA and Adepta Sororitas to be included in my MV Mod.

on Feb 16, 2009

@ GW - Ahhh... very well, very well. I was merely providing a suggestion.

I'm glad you guys are happy the way you are. Best Regards.

KP I hope you don't mind but when I become elligable i'm going to join the Gerontocrats. I'm already rehearsing my speech. I'm up to the 'you kids get off my lawn!" part.

it'll be a long way off though.  probably go into galciv3 by then and expecting galciv 4 if they make it.
